Festival guide
Experience a tshechu.
Tshechus are religious festivals held in dzong courtyards to honour Guru Rinpoche. Monks and laymen perform masked cham dances for several days, and at some festivals a giant thongdrel thangka is unrolled at dawn on the final morning.
Any culture package can be timed around a festival. Hotels near Paro and Thimphu fill early in festival weeks, so we suggest booking six months ahead.
